That would be my choice too. Brilliant whisky. Definitely a marmite whisky, though those that dislike it just haven't tried hard enough

Definitely a wee drop of cool water. 55% burns the tongue a bit.

I see Ardbeg varies from 46% to near 58%. Anyone recommend first to try?

Re: Not feeling so old after all!
For me, the 46% is excellent with a little cold water. It is for sipping though and to savour which is I guess what whisky is for in the first place. If it takes a bit of getting used to it will be all the better for that.

Agreed. I've tried a few Ardbegs over the years but still prefer the standard 10yo 46%. Many of the older ones are smoother and less extreme, but when it comes to Ardbeg, extreme is what I want.

Maybe you want some of the really rough Laphroaigs?
(Ardbeg being fairly close to the more easygoing Laphroaig flavours - both of which are among my favoured tipples).

Im 43. My mum had a similar issue as you. She is 77. When 60 she had the same you described. Had two stents. Pain persisted. Actually turned out to be type 2 diabetes affecting her. So after thst was diagnosed, been 100% ever since. Maybe it's not your heart at all now. Just something more minor underlying.
There is a question for all of you at 60+. Any advise to a 43 year old, that you didn't do yourself and wish you did?

As it happens, I went for ultrasound tests today which picked up a gall stone which definately could be the cause of the pain I am experiencing as well as a kidney stone which can cause different problems in the future. All blood tests have come back as normal and the GP will advise next course of action this week .
I am hoping that the gall stone is the cause as the cure is fairly straightforward.
As to advice for younger people, keep physically fit, dont work stupid hours as no-one really appreciates it and always try to let reason see past intuition.

Great it's a gallstone. 15 minute job mostly. Back to normal.
Very sound advise. I used to work ridiculous hours in London. In to a meeting for a briefing at 6.00am. Bit of work. Crack on by about 8.30am. Meet people at lunch. Meet people in the evening for work (often went on to 3am). Back up at 5am to start all over again. I was burnt out by 35. Took a look around me and saw 40 year olds either looking 60 or relying on chemicals lol. So i left it. Best decision I ever made. Just work for myself now, about 3 hours a day.
Reason over intuition.. . Very difficult but on reflection so very true.

Re: Not feeling so old after all!
Essdee, tell your family and friends just how much they mean to you. I was brought up in a "stiff upper lip" kind of way as far as emotions are concerned and it took me a long time to get used to giving and receiving hugs etc. Nowadays if the grandchildren, ggrandchildren friends or anyone else calls I stop whatever I'm doing and spend time with them. I hope they always think of me kindly for enjoying their company.
I lost my first husband when he was only 32 and I've always regretted not telling him everyday how much he was loved by myself and the children.
I agree with everyone who says that work shouldn't rule your life, take time to smell the flowers, it's worth it.

You are absolutely correct. Kisses often for my wife, son, daughters and grandkids (and postman when he delivers a highly anticipated book (well, perhaps not, but I am not one to hold back the sentiment)).

Re: Not feeling so old after all!
Well you lot are lucky. I came out as 121 years old. Nearly 50 years older.
I went wrong because, although I have been overweight, mostly around my middle, all my life, I have thighs that any skinny minnie would die for, slim and flat.
At least it gave me a laugh,

I am not sure that letting reason see past intuition is necessarily a good thing. I am long retired but I still use intuition quite often. Not everything is logical and subject to reason.

Re: Not feeling so old after all!
Imaginative, creative and/or outdoor play with my grandchildren (and - many years ago - my children) is the most pleasurable and rewarding thing in life bar none. Build a sandcastle; but help! - the invading tide is coming in; what should we do? strengthen the outer wall in a hurry, build a dam, etc etc.
And afterwards: Laphroaig 25yrs Cask Strength, Ardbeg (any) or Lagavulin 16yrs. Talisker is too peppery for me.
I keep hoping that a ship laden with casks of Port Ellen will run (safely) aground on my doorstep. Failing that, I hope to live long enough to sample the 'new' Port Ellen.

My two granddaughters are joining us for a week - so I'll let you know at the end of the week how old I actually feel.

Re: Not feeling so old after all!
Well I think that intuition is a useful attribute when trying to read markets. it is useful in all sorts of other ways as well though, relationships with others, trying to read the culture of a company and so on.
