True, but England didn't win the 6 Nations and there's no Rugby Ashes to come...

It's usually awarded to a world champion/ team perticipant.......we don't have many of those this year.

Might as well give it to Lewis Hamilton......he's delivering consistent world championship performance year on year.....and has got a personaity which seems to be a prerequisite.

Fair enough, although the OP (wasn't) talking about teams per se. It would still be difficult for any individual Rugby player to trump the achievements by Stokes so far. Unless a last minute drop goal or conversion is involved. :D

Looking at the list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Sports_Personality_of_the_Year_Award, a cricketer has won, following what I think were home Ashes series, as follows:

1956 Laker (Sports Review of the Year winner)
1975 Steele
1981 Botham
2005 Flintoff

Not that England will win the Rugby World Cup but there's always hope. Tempting fate but The Ashes + CWC and the RWC in the same year would, at least, make the Team of the Year interesting, although I would imagine cricket would win that one as well.
