Surely this must be deliberate? Get a forgery that good and misspell 'pound' ???

I may have answered my own question;
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-x-20-Pound ... SwTn1dcPsV
Surely this can't be legal?

Yes(?)
Is there not a copyright notice at the bottom of UK paper currency for precisely this sort of reason, following some 'incident' a while ago now involving an artist?

Not surprising. I live here and assume they are used to pay for the fake tans.

It appears that listing these as movie props is not against eBay policy although the word "party" could imply that they are novelty banknotes. EBay may interpret their rules less literally, however.

Odd, then, that they have a Novelty and Replica banknotes category;

Prop notes are 20% larger than real ones so are not going to fool anyone in real life.

Re: Fake £20s from Newcastle?
Doesn't mention that in the article I linked to, so it may not apply to all these fake ('novelty/prop') banknotes
And anyway, wasn't the copyright notice introduced because someone was selling banknote tea-towels of all things?

Inappropriate or novelty reproductions

"We do not allow inappropriate or novelty reproductions because they could affect the integrity or public image of our banknotes, cause offence, or infringe copyright."

I still vaguely remember this as some incident (in the 1990s?) where an artist reproduced BoE notes, but a quick Google has not so far provided confirmation.
Though Banksy later tried his hand:
Banksy fake banknote artwork joins British Museum collection
The Guardian
Piece depicts Princess Diana and was one of thousands of copies produced in 2004

For props, you can just photocopy the notes. If you spend a bit of time messing around with different papers, they look very good.
You can also use photocopies of notes to make note-sized bundles look like bundles of real banknotes.
Not that I have any real interest in this of course.
