Quarter of a million here we come ...

I've just noticed that the total number of posts figure at the bottom of the page is 249,971. Just 29 to go to a quarter of a million.

That's a pretty amazing achievement for a board that was set up almost exactly 3 years ago.

I was tempted to stay up and try to bag the magic number, but posts at this time of night are thin on the ground, and I suspect it'll happen around 8:00 tomorrow morning (though this post may now make it happen earlier!)

Incidentally, I'm sure there was a name for the practice of bagging such numbers on TMF, but I can't remember what it was.

Seems #250000 has already been reached.

The numbers cannot be allocated in chronological order because to pick a random post, at 5.11 pm on 5 November 2019 under Election Impact on Investment Strategy we had no 262354 and yet 250000 on 6 November 2019, as already demonstrated.

What is going on?

That was 6 September, not November. The numbering of the posts will take into account deletions.

I was referring to the number at the bottom left of the `Home' page. This is now 250052, so it would seem that, as predicted, the 250000 number was passed this morning.

However, I appreciate that it would be impossible to identify which post it was because this number isn't in sync with the actual number due to the deletions.

Still pretty impressive though.

When I first saw this topic headline I thought it was going to be an escapee from Polite discussions , referring to immigration and the apparent volte-face of the governing party proposing to recruit more NHS staff from abroad.
I'm relieved to see it was not, although it certainly is getting close to Polite discussion territory with the disagreements concerning post numbers :)

The time to get really excited CK is when you reach your 250,000 post. You can really celebrate then :D

Yes that was explained. My point was that #250000 was back in September, not November as you said.

This is becoming a trifle boring but I was never claiming when post no 250000 was published, and frankly I do not care.

I suppose if you post one a minute for 16 hours a day, five days a week for 52 weeks plus an additional day to make up the 365, then you should manage it within a year.
Any volunteers? :)

Currently CK posts at a rate of around 567 posts per year. 250,000 /567 = 441 years.
Assuming CK is around 60 (for ease of calculation) he would either need to start posting a lot more or survive to the age of 500.
