At our community cafe today we had a choir from the local primary school along to sing Christmas songs. As they've been doing WWII at school all the songs were about remembering the evacuees ,of which there were many, who came to this area from Liverpool and Birkenhead. The children were delightful and sang very well (not surprising really in Wales) but the high light was afterwards when two of the cafe regulars were talking to the youngsters and explaining to them that they themselves were some of those refugees. They are brother and sister whose parents had been killed in the Liverpool bombings and as no relatives were forthcoming had stopped with their new families and been assimilated into the village. A really nice outcome.
