The Planets

I'm enjoying this repeated series more than my first viewing, for some odd reason. I haven't found Cox as irritating as I sometimes do, so my enjoyment has been unspoiled.

It's a spectacular programme and it highlights the fabulous achievements of NASA, with Mariner, Viking, Voyager and Cassini amongst others.
It seems to me the US hasn't had a lot to be proud about in recent history but it can and should be proud of NASA.

I think that I missed it the first time round. I am recording the episodes and watch when I have an hour to spare. I particularly enjoyed the explanation of why Mars lost its atmosphere.

I have a theory that all astronomers are annoying, or at least the ones in media. Patrick Moore might just have been one of the oddest people ever. Whilst Carl Sagan always struck me as a bit sinister.

In my youth I briefly toyed with studying Astronomy at UCL but was put off by how mathematical the subject actually is if you study it formally. So it remains just a hobby for me. I have a 6 inch refractor and a 8 inch catadioptric. It does for me, especially for the planets.

Under normal circumstances Cox speaks like a normal person, when fronting a documentary he slows to half pace, for me it renders the content unwatchable.
