Porter or milk stout is definitely the way forward for breakfast beer.

It's been a while since I was there. The Jacobs Beer House in Bradford had a sign behind the bar.
"Beer, not just a breakfast drink"

I doubt I will ever be there again, it was a real ale oasis in a manic road system. Great care needed negotiating the route back to the hotel.

When pulling all night poker sessions in Las Vegas I would often have a Bloody Mary at breakfast time.

I have now not had an alcoholic beverage since starting dry July.

I admit to having to cut back a little when we realised that our consumption had increased to at least two bottles a night. We've cut back to one bottle three evenings a week and an occasional beer earlier in the day. The annoying thing is that even by doing this OH hasn't lost any weight. Empty calories my backside!!!

That's all very well but I don't think you've mentioned the size of the bottles concerned. We seem to be enjoying 2000ml bottles of this Ruby Ale (a little early this year but hey ho):

Never thought of having beer with breakfast

When I was in Sweden it was not unusual for breakfast to be herrings and lager.

Some years ago, when working in London off Oxford St, I 'lived' in a hotel room in Bloomsbury.
I always started work at around 06.45, and used to get up much earlier and walk east to the Cock Tavern (RIP) in Smithfield Market to have breakfast.
Wonderful brekkie: grilled kidneys, steak, fried liver, huge sausages .... all washed down with draught Guinness.

A good brisk walk to Oxford St and I was set up for the day.

In 1960 , arriving at Munich Hauptbahnhof at around 5 am on my way to spend what was my first holiday abroad in Seehausen am Staffelsee, I was astonished to see a group of workers drinking huge mugs of beer in the station cafeteria! I soon became used to seeing lederhosen clad men smoking their curved pipes and drinking beer in those huge steins in the beer gardens around the lake.
