That was great film, and I saw it in theatre as well, c.1984, but if I'm honest, only the first half was good. It went downhill and just became boring.

Btw there's an enjoyable film on Netflix called "Rose Island" which tells the real-life story in the 1960s of "An idealistic engineer [who] builds his own island off the Italian coast and declares it a nation". Italian with English subtitles.
