Like most people, I have been following the awful events surrounding the storm in Texas, and one of the phrases that keeps cropping up when Texas politicians are interviewed is something along the lines of "this terrible storm was a once in a generation occurrence."

On a completely unrelated topic, I note that apparently the age of puberty in Texas has suddenly plummeted to 3

Indeed. The definition of "a generation" is getting shorter all the time. Soon there'll be one born every minute.

A man from Michigan was killed earlier this month after he was struck by shrapnel from "a small cannon type device" fired during a baby shower, police said. Two other gender-reveal parties were blamed for sparking wildfires in California in September 2020, and Arizona in April 2017.

Speaking of which, I have plainly been out of touch for too long. Since when has it been necessary to hold a party just so you could shower a baby?

Famously Carrie planned one a year ago, which it has been speculated was why lockdown was delayed in March.

I'm not sure I'd even heard the phrase before that story broke.

Gender reveal parties are I believe and American "thing". I've never understood the necessity
to know what gender your child is going to be, in my day as long as it had the requisit number of bits and was deemed to be healthy then that was all that mattered. Nowadays they can't even wait 9 months!!
