Scott.

Sure, the BBC epitomises making a mountain out of First World Problems.

But I wouldn't take a Daily Fail story as evidence for this or any other (alleged) incidence of it.

The clue is in the name. Have you ever watched Pointless?

TJH

I have watched it but it does not do much for me because I know nothing of films nor quite a lot of the other subjects. Anyway my comment was not meant to be taken too seriously.

Whilst the BBC is allegedly leading the charge, basded on varios SM posts and here etc ( I personally wouldnt know - the only BBC provision Ive watched this week was the women's 6N matches on iplayer-sport channel) they are surely not alone? Have ITV, Ch 4 and Ch 5 not done anything? (ive not watched any provision fromnm those channels at all this week so i wouldnt know ).

Isnt this all just a self fulfilling prophecy though? The media go on and on and on, because the PEOPLE want it to go on and on and on, and if they dont the media will slate the media AND the PEOPLE for not wallowing in it all, in this (to me anyway) bizarre deification of the recently deceased?

Now we will never know.

Apparently the Queen Mum got one from Lizzie so presumably he would have. But it's not automatic, you have to apply, or someone applies for you.

When I worked for what was then the DHSS back in in 1980s we had to keep an eye on records for anyone approaching their 100th birthday so that we could notify the powers that be so that a telegram could be sent. I seem to remember there was some sort of protocol about checking the recipient was actually still alive.

Well I have a friend whose mother reached her 100th birthday last August and contrary to what seems to be believed, she was contacted a few weeks before the birthday to ensure that she was still alive and that they had the correct address. Neither the recipient nor anyone else had to do anything so the old DHSS system is still working it would seem. They have the records after all.

100th birthday cards are sent automatically, 60th wedding anniversary cards need to be applied for.

National Rail have changed their web site so it's all black, white and grey, as a mark of respect for Philip's passing.

There have been complaints that it has been rendered unusable to some with vision issues.

Are we all completely mad or what?

Well they've put a style="filter: grayscale(100%);" in it. No doubt some flagshagger with 100% vision thought it was a great idea.

I had no idea what that meant so I mucked about and tried disabling uBlock Origin and I see what you mean. On Chrome with uBlock enabled, all is OK. uBlock goes even higher in my ratings

All black, dark grey and white on my Chrome browser. Glorious Technicolor on my antique Internet Explorer 11.

Anyway, a change of website colour is a modest enough mark of respect for a man who surely spent his whole life travelling by train. ;)

Yes I'm sure his fondest wish was that all websites went back to the way they looked in the 1950s...

I've just remembered.

I once met the tribal leader of the trivebe that worships prince Philip.

National Rail seem to have reverted the change following complaints, after they initially said it would remain monochrome all week "in respect".
