‘Tis not uncommon for an actor or other celebrity to display and possibly market other accomplishments (and products) of questionable value.
Well, for a change, it is good to see fine actor Timothy Spall (latterly of Mr Turner and Mrs Lowry & Son fame) exhibit* his paintings that – from photos at least – are genuinely good. And to his credit, he hasn't - on this showing at least - tried to imitate Turner's 'ethereal' sky and sea.

I realise that my opinion as an artistic philistine is as naught compared to those who want something edgy or indecipherable, but if I had wall-space and wallet-spare I would want to buy The Guarding Bow Wave and possibly Waveless Today.

I also covet three others: Washing Worships as Day Declines, Comfort in the Shadow, and Dying of the Lake Light - all also on show at Pontone.
The only one that seems 'wrong' is Elsinore where the depiction of waves is inconsistent with the perspective, but it is probably because I am an artistic drongo.

My favourite if only for the title is:

"My Mum, Sylvia, Briefly Reincarnated As A Butterfly On A Church Windowsill As If On An Aerial Bombing WW2 Photo"
