The tomatoes I had in my lunch today were from as far south as Mauritius - something I first saw just weeks ago. They were one of a much-reduced selection of tomato varieties.

As for courgettes, their scarcity has already been observed in this forum.

I suspect the lettuce crisis is just the tip of the iceberg...

Keep calm everyone. Don`t panic.

Past experience indicates there will not be a problem till carrots are scarce.

Besides , how many pizzas are topped with lettuce, broccoli or courgettes?

I fail to see how a broccoli shortage of any magnitude could be described as a "crisis".

I shall do my best not to.

Panic, that is.

As long as there isn't a cheese shortage, but even then I have an emergency supply, so it would take some time to bite!

Cheese should never bite. If yours is baring its teeth at you, you need to have a word with your supplier.

I've already visited my 4 local supermarkets and now have 12 iceberg lettuces. Hooray!

Trouble is I can't stand 'em.

The missus went down to the local farm shop yesterday. Strictly Range Rover territory, that place. I now have three small lettuces, five courgettes, and a bigger mortgage. :(

Flog them on eBay and make a handsome profit eh?

You are sitting on a gold mine there (apparently).

A successful publicity stunt by Tescos!

Nothing like a whisper of the word shortage to create more demand!
