Yes. The video doesn't really show the three (possibly four - where's Rowdy when you need him, I recall his son was or is on a flattop) people who the shooter is getting his "go" (thumbs up) or "no-go" for the aircraft to take off. But if you look closely you will see a very small yellow jersey on the opposite side of the deck, a green jersey near the raised deck shield and the guy with the laptop.
I have seen other video's where the shooter salutes the pilot. I don't think this is a naval requirement but more of a "have a good trip" and or a mark of respect between comrades. Perhaps Rowdy can throw some light on this.
The fact that they make it look so simple suggests they are well trained professionals.
