Where is Monty Python when you need them?

British fairgrounds should stop featuring horses and other animals on their carousels because it encourages exploitation, campaign group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) has said.
The animal rights charity wants them to be replaced with objects that celebrate human achievement.
“It would be wonderful to see UK fairgrounds replace animal-shaped carousel figures with vehicles such as cars, unicycles, tractors, aeroplanes, rockets, and bulldozers – or more whimsical designs like shooting stars, rainbows, or brooms,” said Elisa Allen, of Peta.

But most of her suggestions are exploiting polluting vehicles. A broom is a symbol of female subservience.

I am offended and want to complain. Is there a form I have to fill in? I have a slot tomorrow when I can feel offended between 10 & 11am.

Steve

PS According to my Italian friends, the best steak tartare is actually made with horse meat!

"Carousels should not use horses as it encourages exploitation"

That particular ship has already sailed, several thousand years ago I'd guess. Had we had ships that early.

It's probably a close call which came first. Us 'exploiting' horses to run around on, or exploiting trees to paddle around on...

They're addressing a problem that started to dissappear over 100 years ago, with the advent of the internal combustion engine.

Some people have too much time on their hands.

I think you're all somewhat missing the point.

I came to the conclusion that PETA were bonkers when they objected to beekeeping on the grounds that bees sometimes get squashed by beekeepers.

Sorry too cryptic. They love everyone getting uppity and talking about them. Pretty standard Peta stuff, fur coats dripping blood, bee squashing, cats are fish, Bullsh*t given to the king of Spain for bullfights.

One of PETA’s key strategies is to get coverage of animal rights in the media. Through eye-catching demonstrations, celebrity ads and original ideas, we reach readers of major national and local papers, viewers of TV and readers of blogs.

And now I give them more oxygen of publicity and am complicit

Very easy to do when misrepresented by journalists.

I've no idea if that applies in this case. It's entirely plausible.

They offer "...free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness".
As a meat-eating sadistic introvert I feel in need of a lesson in kindness and empathy. I wonder if they offer scholarships or grants?

I do not know but I feel sure that PETA offers liberal dollops of condescension, patronisation and a smug, creepy sense of moral superiority.

Why should they not feel morally superior? Everyone else does!
