rather like fax machines.


I said goodbye to mine last year. now, it sits in the garage, waiting - and looking like office machinery does in abandoned offices and factories. I can't remember when I received or sent a fax last. I kept it for an elderly client who would go to a newsagent near his home and use the fax machine there to send letters to me. but even he now elicits the help of a family member to email instead.

and not just phone books. my collection of map books for car journeys is also redundant now that I've got the hang of a satnav and others do my long-distance driving. The getting on for £500 of postage stamps bought new at face value only to be exchanged when Royal Mail took the more valuable ones back is lasting longer, and more inflation eroded. my psion organiser…
