A fun weekend with some...errrr...'challenging' weather from time to time
When the sun was out, it was nice though.
Ah Royal Deeside. Beautiful countryside and eye wateringly expensive farm shops.
Not a problem for some though. HRH C&C in da house.

Nice pictures but the building in the last one must be suffering chronic subsidence, must make holding a pint very tricky.

Maybe the photographer had been over-doing the sampling on a Whisky Distillery Tour

Re: The Lemonfool my pic of the day thread
Trip to the beach again for some lunch
It was pretty cool just sitting there in the back of van, doors open, sandwiches an coffee. Seagull squawking, waves gently tumbling in Chillin' listening to the fitba on Radio 5 Live.......
Then we took a gentle bimble homewards and ended up taking a wrong turn. I've lived here for decades and I've never been up this particular road - mainly because it's a dead end. It's a fair trek to the end right enough, but unless you live there or are visiting then there's no real reason to go there.
So we got to a point about a mile down the way, where it narrowed again to a farm track and we though 'Nah' lets turn around....But before we do, whats that up there? Looks like a monument to something....'
Needless to say, Colin was a bit sulky at being left behind...
We got closer and my first thought was that the whole area has been well looked after
Anyway, it turns out it's a designated Commonwealth War Grave. The dozen or so people that are buried here are all from the same family and a quick Google would suggest they are a rather well to do lot in our area.
Pleased with our little find for the day, we made our way back to the van to head for home.

Lovely photos. (I guess the expensive farm shops are trading on the back of the area's royal connection as opposed to good ol' inflation.)

Re: The Lemonfool my pic of the day thread
We were back at the Japanese Garden, at Cowden Estate, near Dollar, in Fife, yesterday. A much enjoyed visit.
We first visited the garden in September 2018, and left the following note in the Lemon Fool - Travel Lounge - Around the UK
Since that visit there has been further significant progress with the restoration, including lots of new plantings. It is also now much more widely known, due to its appearance on TV - so they now operate a quota system for visitors, and encourage online booking. Tickets are on a timed entry basis, and thereafter you are free to enjoy the Estate until close.

The garden was created by the much travelled Ella Christie (1861- 1949), after her visit to Japan in 1907. She employed Taki Handi from the Royal School of Garden Design in Nagoya, and later was advised by Professor Suzuki, Master of the Soami School of Imperial Design, who considered the garden to be the best Japanese garden in the Western world. Sadly it suffered from vandalism in the 1960s, but in 2014 a fundraising campaign by a trust resulted in the beginning of its restoration. This restoration has reached its half-way stage, and the garden is now open to the public.
The guide tells an interesting tale about Ella Christie. While waiting at the railway station in Dollar, another traveller asked her - are you going to Edinburgh? The response was - I'm going to Samarkand.

Re: The Lemonfool my pic of the day thread
This is a cross between pic of the day and DAK. This was taken a few minutes ago in Monmouthshire, the planes moving in an easterly direction. I've not seen five plane trails before flying in formation like this before and there's no results of any air show in these parts. There was no sound from the planes and even with binoculars, I couldn't make out any actual aircraft. They must have been at quite an altitude. Then again, they could be cruise missiles heading for London !

Apparently five RAF F-35Bs from 617 Squadron (the Dambusters) returning to RAF Marham from a trip to the USA.

Up in Applecross in the Highlands last week, loads of friendly (or brave) red deer milling around the settlement. This one has velvet-covered antlers growing in preparation for rutting season later in the year.
