Quite. I was just about to post the same.
It's still captured unless someone decides to burn it; and there's an opportunity for something to grow in it its place.

Pic looks like a still from one of those 70's forest horror things though... is that the "Last Bothy on the Left"?

The traditional continual painting is now a thing of the past. About 10 years ago a new coating consisting of a triple layer of glass flake epoxy paint was completed which should last for about 25 years. So no more painter scaffolding and patchy paint. And it does look good

Up to a point.

It's nature's long cycle. When wood decomposes, it releases some but not all of the carbon. And nutrients that help new growth (OK, less with some of those conifers). In the very long term, some of it becomes the fossils that we burn - though it may be more likely these days to go through an accelerated cycle that calls it biomass and skips the long fossil stage.

In the hope of introducing a bit of sunshine (not to mention some light relief) in these troubled times, allow me to introduce you to Diego Dove.

We were sitting in a restaurant in Gran Canaria last week. enjoying the novel sensation of warm sunshine, when he appeared, and very politely (not at all like the pushy pigeons in this country) enquired as to whether he might prevail upon us to proffer him the odd morsel or two if our sustenance exceeded our requirements.

Needless to say, we were pleased to oblige!

Well - if they are rare in other parts of the country, it may be that they now all congregate in my part of the country - particularly in the upper branches of a neighbouring tree, from which they deposit their offerings on our paths and car. And they don't even award us with a murmuration. And when I put out food for the birds, the blackies need to be quick off the mark before the starlings clear the lot.

Starlings are far from rare, they've all just decided to live in my garden.

A blue damsel fly on our fishing lochy from Summer last year........ aye, that summer lasted the whole day !

I was in Tesco last October, and noticed some daffodil bulbs on a half price offer. One of my evening walks takes me along a local road with very wide grass verges, which are good for walking, but a bit lacking in features. I therefore decided to buy some bulbs and do some `guerrilla planting'!

I duly went and dug a few holes and planted the bulbs, and I'd more or less forgotten about them. But I went for a walk there a few days ago, et voilà!



We also had the tail end of the Sahara sand a few days ago, and on another stroll along the banks of the Ribble there was a definite orange tinge to the sunset:
