Not too sure how many people will ever see this sight now. The Winter Palace was truly amazing. Great Pity.

We were off in a foreign country last week, with a foreign language, but helpful translations were available, to avoid us not understanding perilous warnings.

But ignoring such warnings, we rambled round this popular route (near Dolgellau).

Gannets Gardening at the top of Bempton Cliffs

We were off in Yorkshire last week - where they appear to use a similar written language as up here in Scotland, but I'm not so sure about the spoken language.
Anyway - back to the photo. The Gannets have arrived at Bempton Cliffs, and there is a good bit of billing and cooing (etc) on the stony cliff ledges. So in an attempt to make life a bit more comfortable, the Gannets have been cropping and gathering the vegetation from around the cliff tops to provide a bit of cushioning for the rocky nests.

Off up north (to John O'Groats). Its not the furthest north part of mainland UK - that title is held by Dunnet head - with its lighthouse looking over to Orkney



And the furthest north-east part is held by Duncansby head - with its lighthouse looking out over the eastern entry to the Pentland Firth.

The Engineer in charge of building the Dunnet head lighthouse in 1831 was Robert Stevenson, while it was his grandson David A Stevenson who was in charge of the building of the Duncansby head lighthouse in 1924.
Robert Louis Stevenson, the author, was the grandson of Robert Stevenson, and the cousin of David A Stevenson

I've seen a cow carcass like that before, as a young child in Northumberland. That was less 'rendered down', a huge gas filled hide-covered mound, covered in flies that stunk 'for miles' with a smell that lingered on your clothes and with you afterwards. It must have wondered into a bog at the corner of a field, got stuck and couldn't get out. Maybe your pictured one got stuck in silt too? Silt can be much like quicksand, there are techniques to escape it, but not for cows etc.

We're in western Germany at the moment. This is a spectacular narrow loop in the Saar river, a tributary of the Mosel, which itself flows into the Rhine.

From my son up north - you need to be an expert on the Spey at the moment - lots of rain would be appreciated.
And back beneath the Campsies, the fish in our Loch are complaining about the temperature, and are sulking. On Saturday night the Osprey patrolled back and forward for a considerable time before catching a fish. Among my fellow anglers it was deemed a success that I even managed to get a trout to have a look at my fly before shaking its head and disappearing. As to catching the Osprey on camera, my poor attempts have also failed.

We have our son's dog on holiday with us, so it takes me on a daily walk. We are fortunate in that there are a large number of paths around the village - several of which have been embellished by a variety of "art" structures. I think this one ranks as one of the weirder ones:-

Apologies for the askew presentation of the descriptive panel - aforesaid dog was pulling me off down the path. Is it possible he is not an art connoisseur?

A pleasant but hot day at Witley Court in Worcestershire. It was so hot that the house appeared a "whiter shade of pale" (apparently Procol Harum used Witley Court in '67 to film a video for AWSOP - I didn't know that! ).

Well it could be interpreted that way by some, but I'd have suggested the same caption if it was a guy or a T-rex. The fact that it was a lass is irrelevant
