Its gone! Currently it is way out in the North Sea, East of Wick. I think it must have been practicing a quick refuel in Invergordon.

Here's a live version of a No Fishing Kingfisher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKmNZFdrTFs

Not my video.

Another which ignores Fischen Verboten:

Not my image.

This male kingfisher - pictured by the Tarff Water in Dumfries and Galloway - seems to have the fishing rights here, according to Walter Baxter from Galashiels.

I thought this was just a reposting of the same picture so wasn't going to bother clicking on the link, but it's worth doing so, as there are some excellent pictures there.

I particularly like the cockapoo at Linlithgow Loch.

At Dunnet Head on Sunday - the most northerly point on Mainland UK. The Sun was shining behind us - but the showers were about to arrive!

Image

Over fifty years ago we were at Dunnet Head in late spring when the sea birds were arriving to nest - after 8 months at sea. They were having to re-learn forgotten skills - on how to land on the cliffs. The puffins were particularly comic - as they scrabbled to get a grip with their feet and beak, then would fall off, and come round for another try.

Ryvoan bothy, I guess. I spent a few nights there in Dec 1974, on a week's walk around the Cairngorms. Friggin' cold, my socks froze solid every night and needed a good bashing before I could put them on in the morning!

For those seeking a less energetic ramble, a shorter version consists of the section up past Lochan Uaine (the green lochan) to the Ryvoan Bothy (and return).
https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/ryvoan.shtml
Its very pleasant, and it reminds me that it has been some years since I trod that way. Thanks for the photos to jog my memory - its time for a return..

We travelled up to Grantown on Spey on Friday, and as we passed Pitlochry, the hills had a light covering of snow, with a bit more on the Cairngorms. Autumn Watch will be starting soon (Tuesday) on TV - just down the road from Grantown, and it looks like they will also see a touch of winter.
Earlier today we were exercising my son's dog in the nearby Anagach Woods

Image

Which has an attractively wood-carved notice

Image

But our chief reason for travelling to Grantown was to celebrate our younger granddaughter's Birthday. One of the more unusual presents is displayed below.

Image

I'm not sure if "This Farming Life" is displayed south of the Border on BBC TV, however it features Lynn Cassells and Sandra Baer who have taken over an old croft (LynBreck) on the road between Grantown and Tomintoul. Our Granddaughters are keen viewers - so were delighted to have Lynn delivering the eggs.
And this afternoon there was a party - with a bouncy castle, which I refrained from trying out, since I need to be capable of driving south tomorrow.

And further trivia - there is a café in Grantown called Chaplin's Coffee House and Ice Cream Parlour - because Charlie Chaplin used to bring his wife and children to it in the 1970s during holidays in Nairn and Grantown

Windsor (California) -

High winds fuel hot embers from a burning oak tree near Windsor.

The Kincade fire has burned more than 75,000 acres, an area twice the size of San Francisco.

We had a pleasant walk along the Aberfoyle forest trails yesterday, enjoying the Autumn colours

Image

Image

We watched a red squirrel - who in return, watched us. But every time I raised my camera, it dodged back behind the tree - maybe he only poses for a reward. But there were other, rather unlikely, inhabitants of the woods who were happy to pose.

Your lady friend looks uncomfortably posed, unless perhaps she's just squatting for a wee?

Reminds me of Kafka onna bike:
