Sourdough, mmmmmm. I get mine from Simmons: http://www.simmonsbakers.com/

I've tried to make it, but always failed.

Simmons do good stuff - there was one very near our Hatfield regional office

Love either their White or, and even better, their Multi-seed soughdough. http://www.simmonsbakers.com/food-breadandrolls

I feel a thick cut bacon on multi-seed sourdough sandwich coming on ......

I used to enjoy Muffin the Mule.

I'll tell you what annys me iiis when the missus buys bread that is too big for the toaster. I mean why?

Perhaps it's her way of hinting that you need a bigger toaster.

Why not buy her on for her birthday.

(Then duck)

Wrong way round. Your toaster, as with most, is too small for a decent sized loaf.

When we have Farmhouse I revert to using the grill.

Welcome Diz, it's really nice to see the regulars making an appearance. I visited every day but didn't always have a lot to say. Must say the lemon and green decor is very swish but the seating's comfortable and the bar well stocked, home from home really.

That hasn't been allowed for some years. I blame the EU.

Surely any bread with thick cut bacon on it is a butty not a sandwich. Sandwiches are dainty little things with the crusts cut off. A butty is a meal on it's own with a decent filling and a dollop of sauce to your taste.

Proper toast is made in front of an open fire, thick bread on a toasting fork, a couple of burnt bits and proper salted butter. Food of the gods.

These boards are an education.
I always thought that the what the Americans call "English Muffins" were what we call scones.

'Biscuits' in the US are like savoury scones I think, cookies being biscuits
