A Toast

#6041

Postby hermit100 » November 17th, 2016, 5:43 pm

To TMF [wipes eye] and thanks to them for bringing us all together in the first place.

Another toast to Lemon Fool for saving us all from oblivion!

Given the occasion I'm going to be a girl and have an Amaretto (my comfort drink of choice). No ice.

I'll raise a glass with you to TMF (Decd.) and another to TLF long may it prosper.

But I think I'll be on The Dark Side of The Moose tonight.

I was a prolific lurker on TMF but found myself completely gutted when I saw it was closing. So my resolution if to post more on here because it made me realise what a terrific place TMF was and how I should really try and contribute more.

So a toast to the Lemon! (Although mine's an OJ because I'm off to work soon :( )

Why do Americans call eggy bread French toast? In all the years I've been going to France I've never been served French toast or eggy bread for that matter.

A dearth of french fries, french kissing and french letters too.

I've just been downloading some old TMF posts into a Word doc (there's prob a better way to do it)

Bit sad actually, looking at stuff from 10-15 years ago when I was so young and full of hope* - and what have I become ?
<violins>
A sad, bitter old man with his best days behind him. Feeding the ducks in the park, tears streaming down his face, splattering on his shabby overcoat. A solitary magpie circling.
The clouds gather, and a light rain begins to fall.
So alone. So alone....
</violins>

Nah, sod that, Friday tomorrow :)

*full of something,anyway

If we're on sweet Italian drinks, mine's a Limoncello. Can't beat the lemon drink. But since I'm in Spain this week, I'll precede it with a glass of the delicious dry white wine I was served with my Monday meal - being the nicest tipple I've had since arriving here.

Beer can wait 'til I'm back in Blighty.

Because to an American, if you put French in front of it, it sounds more exotic than what it really might be, perhpas?

I can't imagine what English muffins are in England. I doubt you have those either.

Belgian Waffles?

I don't get it either.

English muffins -in England- are the ones you split and toast (foundation for Eggs Benedict) - basically white or wholemeal bread 'hockey pucks'
American Muffins (as you know) are the sweet ones

<sneaks back into the snug for a virtual beer and...>

...a toast to TMF, where I logged in pretty much daily, since 1999. I might settle in here if that's ok.

Sourdough, mmmmmm. I get mine from Simmons: http://www.simmonsbakers.com/

I've tried to make it, but always failed.
