Re: Tom Petty
I am sorry you have had no responses to your post today. Tom Petty never seemed to me to be a 'typical' singer, too decent and down to earth. I particularly enjoyed his stuff with the Travelling Willburys. Very sad to go at the age of only 66. As you say RIP.

I like Mary Jane's Last Dance (not a fan of the video though!)
If you've heard Dani California by the Chili Peppers you will recognise it!

I don't know his music very much but have just listened to 'Refugee' on You Tube. It was a staple on the jukebox in a pub I went in many times throughout my late-teens and 20s. Always liked listening to it.

‘I’m old enough to have lived in a country where, if you were willing to work hard, you could have a fairly nice life. You could support a family and even get a shot at owning your home but you never thought you’d get a swimming pool. Now the culture has hypnotized people into thinking they’re really nothing if they’re not wealthy and a Kardashian.’

No problem Dod. It was posted more as an anoncement considering what is happening globally at the moment.
Ironically it was the Great British Public that recognised and acknowledge his talent, several years before the Yanks, following his UK tour supporting Nils Lofgren in 1976. He proved so popular on that tour that he was able to return to the UK a few months later headlining his own tour with subsequent public exposure via Top of the Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test.
The Travelling Wlburys was a great concept but unfortunately with the death of Roy Orbison, a less than rousing reception to their 2nd album and George Harrisons theory "that if touring required more effort than laying in a hammock, then forget it", live appearances never materialised.

Re: Tom Petty
Sad news indeed, as Petty was a radio staple during my youth. I saw him do a terrific show at Opryland in suburban Nashville on the Long After Dark tour.

Re: Tom Petty
I was lucky enough to see TP three times, in Glasgow, Edmonton & just this summer in Minneapolis. RIP indeed. Great music, great times.
