Hi all,

A little while ago, Breelander very kindly linked this:

For free you get a summary chart, if you subscribe to the FT you can get interactive charts and historic data as well.

FT100 INDEX PER https://markets.ft.com/data/indices/tea ... =UKX.P:FSI
FTA 350 PE RATIO https://markets.ft.com/data/indices/tea ... =NMX.P:FSI

Thanks for these Breelander, these are very useful - and presumably the very thing that investors like "pyad" must use in their investment choices.

I was wondering if there existed another such free resource of current dividend yields for these indices.

It's worth putting these in your bookmarks too -

FTSE 100 yield - https://markets.ft.com/data/indices/tea ... =UKX.D:FSI

FTSE 350 yield - https://markets.ft.com/data/indices/tea ... =NMX.D:FSI

Some useful historical charts there too, but the current yield figure is given under the head banner.

Confusingly, it's marked as 'Price ()', but the figure shownis the percentage yield of each index.

Currently -

FTSE 100 = 4.11%

FTSE 350 = 3.9%

Cheers,

Itsallaguess

Though making any sort of share picking decision about the quality of an investment based on its dividend yield is a noob error. A dying business may pay big dividends as an act of self harm to please the mug punters engaged in yieldseeking. And a great business may have many opportunities to generate a high return on investment by spending on internal priorities to secure growth outperformance, such that paying a dividend is not the best use of the funds.

See Carillion and the repeated posting of underperforming HYP portfolios we see on TLF.

Hope that helps, sorry for the health warning, but been there, got the T shirt and trying to save others from an expensive lesson.

HIgh yield can be a good indicator of value and not necessarily a sign of impending collapse. There have been plenty of good high yield shares around to buy for good returns long and short term. Carillion did not fail because of the high yield but other well documented factors.
As another quick reminder, much as I like dividenddata for screening its number vary from that of the ft and also from the FTSE Russell I use their monthly data sheets https://www.ftse.com/analytics/factsheets/Home/Search

Don't worry we aren't that green! We usually download the ARs of any firms and check cash flows and indebtedness.

FWIW, We are just interested in relative div yields for attempting to review stocks for their "PYADness".

Some more options along the same lines:

* You can replace ".P" or ".D" by ".T" to get the total-return version of the index.

* You can replace "UKX" or "NMX" to get other indices, with:

ASX for the FTSE AllShare
HIX for the FTSE350 Higher Yield
LOX for the FTSE350 Lower Yield
MCX for the FTSE250 (I believe the "MC" stands for Mid Cap - it certainly helps with remembering it)
SMX for the FTSE SmallCap

That's not a complete set of options in either case - it's just the ones I have available without having to search for them.

If you want the straight capital-only version of the index, you need a different set of codes. Instead of the whole "UKX.D" or whatever, use:

FTSE for the FTSE100
FTSA for the FTSE350
FTAL for the FTSE AllShare
FTHY for the FTSE350 Higher Yield
FTLY for the FTSE350 Lower Yield
FTSM for the FTSE250
SMC for the FTSE SmallCap

The 'natural' thing to do would be just to omit the ".D", ".P" or ".T" entirely, but that doesn't work, or in the case of "UKX", it produces a page about the euro version of the FTSE100...
