Re: Yamaha
Thanks pal,
Wondered if they trade on any US markets, too.
Some of my fave bikes were yammys and their keyboards seem popular too.

Re: Yamaha
Thanks people,
I'll ask my brokers (iWeb) about investing in Japanese stocks, e.g. forms equivalent to W8BEN, withholding tax. Obviously need to put my sliderule on them first. But they are big name for me, so I reckon they should be good

Re: Yamaha
Quick overview...from Simplywallstreet
The divi is 1.1% so withholding tax shouldn't be a concern.
Debt....very low. ( or velly velly * low for a company of their size)
Quite a bit overpriced ..no bargains here.
Earnings expected to grow but at a low percentage
ROCE 14%
Thoughts..going forwards, it ain't going to perform like an R1 ...more like a "hog"
* my bad.

Ha ha!
I like your review monabri. Short, sweet + witty! TBH my sudden interest comes from me ages ago thinking "hmm.. Yamaha do some cool products", I wonder if you can buy their shares etc. etc. Then I promptly forgot all about them.
However, I've just picked up a second hand copy of One up on Wall Street, which I'm really enjoying. I must say after reading Buffet and Soros, this Lynch dude is really down to earth, and has lovely self-deprecating turn of phase. Anyway one of the opening sections is called "The advantages of dumb money", and in it he makes a point (probably much easier to *actually* put to practice in the latter decades of the good ol' US of A, than 21st century UK!), that anyone can be a better stock-picker than a pro, by merely noticing the sort of good products that they come across in everyday life, rather than searching for the latest super-duper tech. firms. This reminded me of me and my mates loving our Yamaha motorbikes back in the 80s, and how they are still going strong now with that and a few other interests. It's probably a dated idea now, but as they say, nothing ventured nothing gained, and all that.
May try to dig up some English language annual reports and financial statements this weekend if such things exist.

Re: Yamaha
This is no go. iWeb "apparently" don't trade on the Tokyo Exchange. Least according to Mel's web chat she had a minute ago.
Hmm... I can see myself maybe adding this to iWeb's e-suggestion box. It's a tad lame that they trade NYSE and ETR but not TKO, in my opinion.
