Wise/Transferwise Float
I see Wise, the artist formerly known as Transferwise is coming to market tomorrow via direct listing. Having used their services and noting their recent profitability I am tempted to dabble but I'll admit haven't done extensive research. Anyone else interested or have a view on if a rosy or rocky future awaits?

Re: Wise/Transferwise Float
As a saver with Wise,(holding money in various currencies), I was a bit concerned that if I also invested with them, I would be increasing my risk, if anything went wrong. So I left the invitation alone.

Sounds very wise (see what I did there?)
Price fluctuating but currently sitting at about the launch price of 827.7p so not a flyer just yet, if at all.

Yes, I thought it wise to transfer my attentions elsewhere.
For those interested, an update on the float here:

Re: Wise/Transferwise Float
I like the business and use them regularly to make overseas payments which are very easy, cheap and efficient.
However there are two things that put me off investing
1. Valuation - £8.3 bn for a company which made £31m profit last year.
2. Shares structure - the company has a dual share structure which effectively concentrates voting power in the B shares which remain in the hands of it's founders

Re: Wise/Transferwise Float
I use them, very happily, too, so I registered with them as a customer for their sharedeal offer, before the float, details to be released after the float. Today the details of their "offer" have emerged, if you can show proof of ownership of shares bought on or before July 14 & if you hold them for a year they will increase your holding by 5%.
Sadly their increase is also capped at a maximum of £100 total per holder.
Hardly worth offering it was it ?

Re: Wise/Transferwise Float
These seem to have closed at circa 880p so up ~50p on the day or ~5.5%. Not bad but not extraordinary.

Re: Wise/Transferwise Float
I see that Baillie Gifford was an early investor in it, along with Peter Thiel, via a company called Valar Ventures. Don't know which of their funds/ITs participated.
A reasonable premium after an IPO is good but a huge premium means the bankers floating it haven't done their job properly and those providing the shares for the IPO would rightly feel aggrieved.

This wasn't a regular IPO with the price set beforehand by banks, it was a direct listing with the price set by auction, different gravy.

Re: Wise/Transferwise Float
Well perhaps my lack of enthusiasm was misplaced, today, 3 days after launch, they are sitting at around £10 and ~ 20% up and still rising so clearly some saw value in the original price. I'm glad a stuck few grand in now. Congrats and good luck to other holders too.
I'll admit it was more a punt than a well researched strategic investment, but punts are good too when they work out!

Re: Wise/Transferwise Float
I bought some earlier this week using Hargreaves Lansdown - have sent in the registration for the bonus shares (but very limited). Currently showing a 20% profit but I’m happy enough to hold and see what happens. Their service is extremely good and I use them regularly.
Best wishes,
Steve
