Not yet received in my HSDL account. Will they manage to have them listed by the end of the first day of trading?

Not showing yet in either YouInvest or Hargreaves Lansdown either.

I'm sure they will appear at some point :)

BHP received 914,768,948 Woodside shares as consideration for the sale of BHP Petroleum. BHP has paid the in specie dividend and distributed Woodside shares today in line with the details described in BHP's announcement on 20 May 2022. As a result, BHP has now distributed Woodside shares to eligible BHP shareholders. BHP dividend statements and Woodside holding statements are expected to be despatched to eligible BHP shareholders in mid-June 2022.

The closing price of Woodside shares on ASX on 31 May 2022 was A$29.76[1]. The implied value of the in specie dividend was therefore A$27.2 billion (US$19.6 billion). At this valuation, the in specie dividend is approximately A$5.38 (US$3.86), with A$2.30 (US$1.66) of franking credits being distributed, per BHP share.

and
Normal trading of the new Woodside shares that are received as part of the in specie dividend will commence as follows :

2 June 2022 New Woodside shares on ASX

Woodside American depository shares on NYSE

6 June 2022 Woodside depository interests on LSE

That gives us the starting value of the shares in AUD. Presumably a value in GBP will be issued sometime soon.

They are now there, but no ticker and no price yet.

At 1920p per share they are worth just about 20% of median. So do I sell or top up to a reasonable sized holding?

Should a figure of 1800p per share be recorded - this was the open price?

Looks like two dividends per year, paid in March & September (record dates end of Feb and August...the WDS investors page didn't state XD)

I don't think so, according to my wife's Hargreaves Lansdown, the cost / number of shares equates to a starting price of around £16.95.

Wife my SIPP, it's completely different and I don't think YouInvest have the correct data.

But who knows, could be both have it wrong.

Somewhere I have seen it said that the closing price on the first day will be taken as the cost of the Woodside shares. My Lloyds Sharedealing account has the number of shares and the opening price of 1800p, but no other details yet.

Sold all my Woodside this morning, too small a holding overall to be bothered with and topped up some IT's instead with the proceeds.

It is set out in an RNS from BHP.
https://www.investegate.co.uk/bhp-group ... 00045305N/

The value of the in specie dividend is US$3.86 based on the market value of Woodside on 31 May. So that figure (US3.86 x BHP shares) will be the total cost of your Woodside shares (use the USD - GBP rate at 31 May). The cost of your BHP holding does not change. Effectively they paid a dividend which was then invested for you in Woodside shares.

With yesterdays (Monday 6th June) closing of £19.20 does anyone know if is this has been decided as the "official" price you should be using for any calculations?

Thanks

Thanks I did see that but there is no indication of a price in GBP which is what I need. I am surprised there isn't a standard way of doing this sort of thing especially with the HMRC possibly being involved.

So far I have got:
1) Convert from US$ (is there a standard USD - GBP rate at 31 May published somewhere?)
2) Calculate using open price on 6th
3) Calculate using close price on 6th

HL have a cost for me of 1695.38 per share which equates to the in specie dividend of US$3.86 and a $ rate of 1.26

The price on other dates in June is of no relevance

I just plugged that cost into ii and it now shows me a gain of 14.005821303619225%
Approx.

Never mind, they'll be closed (again) over the weekend, that will give them time to fix it.

Did anyone else opt for the cash with HL? I did and so far the transaction is still pending. I've got a number of shares and a cost price but so far no indication of a sell price.

Woodside Energy

#588965

Postby Tara » May 14th, 2023, 5:04 pm

Is there any difference, apart from any exchange rate difference, in the actual dividend that is paid to investors buying Woodside shares on the ASX and investors buying Woodside shares on the LSE? My broker has trading on both markets and I am not resident in the UK.

If WDS declare a dividend of $1 per share in Australia for example, then how much will someone who bought 1,000 WDS shares on the ASX receive in their account? And how much will someone who bought 1,000 WDS shares on the LSE receive in their account? Ignoring any FX rate differences, is it the same amount of $1,000 received or not?

And if there is some difference due to Withholding Tax, then on what basis is the Australian WHT deducted? Is it deducted according to which exchange the shares were bought on, ASX, LSE, etc? Or is the WHT deducted according to the registered address of the owner of the shares? And how much tax will be deducted?

So for someone resident in Dubai for example, is there any difference to buying the Woodside shares on the ASX or LSE? Will they receive exactly the same dividend of $1,000 in their broker account if they buy on either exchange? And will they receive exactly the same amount in their broker account as Australian resident shareholders, or more, or less?

And what about Australian residents? If they buy 1,000 shares in Woodside, will they receive the exact same dividend of $1,000 if they buy on either the ASX or LSE exchange?

Always best to use the HMRC rate for this sort of thing - for 31 May it was £1=$1.245. This can differ quite a bit as it was set in April for May transactions. HMRC used to issue updates if the movement was exceeded +/- 5% before the next update, but I believe this stopped some time back.

So if the Woodside dividend is $1, and the Australian Withholding Tax on dividends is 30%, is it correct that an Australian resident shareholder would receive $1,000 if they bought their 1,000 Woodside shares on either the ASX or on the LSE?

And is it correct that a non Australian resident shareholder would receive $700 if they bought their 1,000 Woodside shares on either the ASX or on the LSE?
