aboiut 25+ years ago I visited a great little museum which i amn sure was near Green park - we saw at the time an exhibition about the Mexican day of the Dead. In my head it was a museum of anthapology and was a free museum... but googling etc doesnt show it up - I definietly didnt dream it, but I am probably just searching incorrectly etc.

Does that description ring any bells with anybody as a museum?

Hmmm... it might have been the Museum of Mankind, a branch of the British useum that seems to have closed in 1997. Though it was in Bloomsbury not green park area ... mind playing tricks maybe ...

Not the Horniman? I mean, that's not near Green Park but...
...or the old Commonwealth Institute...no, probably not, that wouldn't have had an exhibition about Mexico would it? That was someone else's empire!

no not the horniman - it was definitely central london, not out at forest hill

I had fond memories of the Museum of Mankind, at Burlington Gardens (behind the Royal Academy, so near Green Park), it was there 1970 to 1997, its collections were merged back into the British Museum once the British Library moved out.

Oops, after finding a suggestion only now I see how old the question is...
I immediately thought of the Royal Academy. I recall decades ago going to see one of the blockbuster exhibitions there, Tutankhamun, the Terracotta Army, or similar.
Perhaps the exhibition in question was 'Aztecs', which incorporated works relating to the Day of the Dead... https://www.studiointernational.com/ind ... al-academy
If it was the RA, and a major exhibition, a distinctive feature of the visit would have been queing in the large front courtyard on the north side of Piccadily before entry.
