Racist abuse in football

Bulgaria have previous on this so why have they been allowed to take part in the qualifiers?

If they are going to be allowed to take part, just get on with the bloody game without stopping it for abuse every 20 mins. The authorities can deal with that later.

I'm sure that it hasn't gone over the heads of the FA, UEFA and FIFA that the Rugby World Cup is going on at the moment and they are proving that it's possible for fans to come together in close proximity without fighting and without fans of either side giving racist abuse to the players.

Eleven men walked onto that pitch. And that team has every right to walk off if anyone of them is abused in anyway, together as a team.

Under the rules of the game, they do not have that right and nor should they.

I prefer to think that the rules aren't the highest authority on the subject.

If it had been Scotland playing, they would have walked off the pitch. But they would have been 5-0 down at the time ;)

Isn't that a racist statement ?

Given that I'm half-Scottish, I don't think so :?

P.S. For the avoidance of doubt, it was a joke :)

You might prefer to think that but by definition the 'rules' ARE the highest authority on the subject.

If teams were just allowed to walk off whenever they felt like it, there'd be nothing to keep them on the pitch whilst they are getting a battering, as in Clariman's joke/extreme example.

Interesting extracts below, as to what might have happened had they decided to walk off before stage 3, written last week.

Currently, if a racist incident is reported to the referee by a player, then a tannoy announcement will be made. If it happens again the referee can take the players off the field for a short period and make a second announcement, and if it occurs a third time, only then can the match be abandoned.

and

Should the England players walk off, it could have huge repercussions. Uefa rules state that if a team forfeits a game – which this could be considered as doing – they lose 3-0, but if that action was taken the backlash against football’s governing bodies would be fierce.
