Interesting and somewhat depressing! Good to have test cricket back on terrestrial tv after 16 years or so.

For me the difference was not so much the batting quality of the two sides but the gulf in quality of the spinners.

Hopefully we'll get more cricket on Ch 4.

When you say the difference between the two sides, that table covers both recent test series. Glad cinelli didn’t post the India stats only.

to a large extent the averages are a bit meaningless - two test series of very very different relative strengths but they are all lumped together.

Yes... though overall wrt India

India bowlers too good for English batters (including the seam attack)
India batters too good for England bowlers

And some confusing, bizarre and off seelctorial decsions.

Sharma was their only recognised batsman that had a decent batting average at at 57.5, other than that their batsman were quite poor. They more than made up for it with wicketkeeper and all-rounder runs though. (Although you can reasonably argue that 4-6 innings is too small, statistically speaking, to have much meaning).

Fair comment - lets add the word "relatively" in there then :-)
