506-4 in just 75 overs. Records galore. 4 centurians.

What happened to England's batting collapse? Joe Root got 23. Should he be dropped? ;)

A reminder that this is test cricket!

4 centuries – amazing
I am by no means a cricket buff
but that strikes me as quite unusual so DAK if that has happened before

PS Joe Root can have an off day, he has baled us out so many times

and the light was so bad at the end the umpires had to take the players off with stokes having just hit 18 off that final over bowled, including a ramped four off the final ball bowled.

go figure.

What has happened before?

4 centuries in a test match?
4 in a test match for England
4 in a day?
4 in a day for England?
4 on the first day?

A good place to start and accessible to non-cricket buffs too

Records galore, but only a few days before that, there was some strange virus affecting over half the team, and yet inside, but not common knowledge within, reports a curry didn't go down too well, resulting in a squit storm

True or not, I suggest each test match from now on, whatever was used to dramatically improve the situation virtually overnight, should be given three times a day.

Amazing result for England. I didn't think it would be possible for them to win after Pakistan got to 200 odd without loss in their first innings, but some great bowling and then aggressive batting and an even more aggressive declaration made it possible. Got to love the positivity in the current England setup after so many years of safety first.

Hard to think of anything better in sport than the light closing in on day 5 of a test match with all the fielders in catching positions!

When you think of it, that declaration was at just the right time. An hour later and they might not have bowled Pakistan out. I had my doubts at the time, but it has been vindicated.

Someone should tell that to Gareth Southgate.

thing is - its a delight when the Bazball and "no draws" philosophy works.

But when the side sometime then ends up winning just one game out of four, and only five in a year, then its "eddie jones time" ...

A mind-numbing article about all the records in this test:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/63873273

Also liked this about Anderson:
"James Anderson - player of the match when England last played in Rawalpindi, in a one-day international in December 2005 - was characteristically, Andersonically magnificent, nagging away like a hot-shot lawyer until the defendant breaks down and admits to a string of crimes they weren't even charged with."

I can't get used to this!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/63927656

England have 5 wickets in hand and a lead of 281. It's only day 3 tomorrow, so with any luck another 100 could be added.

380 or so, on a real turner, would be a mammoth task for Pakistan.

A belated congratulations to Stoke's team in achieving a 3-0 whitewask of Pakistan, something no team has ever done before.
A remarkable effort, made more so by the fact that they did so at a canter.

I bet the Aussies are quaking in their boots ;)

This surely makes up for the England football woes, Leo?

According to Michael Vaughan, the last 10 months have been the most exciting time for English cricket EVER.

Quite a statement but no doubt it’s been a hell of a ride.

Long may it continue.

Oh I really do hope that the Aussies are quaking in their boots, what joy that would be!

Well it's a nice problem to have. It won't be a problem for long I fear. Facing the Aussie attack will be a different kettle of fish. Some will be vulnerable.

However the fact remains that the England team performed exceptionally well. Nobody could have asked for more.
