Live now on BBC2. It has to be the silliest event in athletics.

Re: 20km Walk
20 kilometres? Huh, I've done longer pub crawls than that. And then done a victory lap.

Particularly considering that the technicalities of what satisfies a compliant walking action means it's more like a 20k mince

Wasn't there a serious attempt a few years ago to have chess treated as a sport?

Re: 20km Walk
world record for the 20Km walk is just under 77 minutes.
That's 14.4 Km / hour ==> 9 miles an hour.
A parkrunner _running_ the same pace would complete their Saturday morning 5K in 15 minutes 24 seconds.
The female world record for parkrun is 15 min 31 sec
The male world record for parkrun is 13 min 45 sec
At my local/"home" parkrun (210 events thus far) the course record is 15:51
The generally accepted "fastest" parkrun course in the UK is Victoria Dock - in its 183 event history it has had just four people equal or beat 15:24
I'd suggest that puts that "silly" sport into context.

Some mistake surely. 77/4 = 19.25 minutes.
Scott.
