US Open mixed
Anyone know why they went directly from one set all to a third set tie break and not a full set? Was it just to ensure the TV schedules worked for the singles?

Different tournaments have different systems - I don't know the rationales. TV scheduling may well be one of them.
Mixed doubles at the Grand Slams except for Wimbledon are a best-of-three format with the final set being played as a "Super Tie Break" (sometimes referred to as a "best of two" format) except at Wimbledon, which still plays a best-of-three match with the final set played as an advantage set and the first two played as tie-break sets.
The US open differs from the other grand slams in that tie breaks are used in the final set of singles matches - also for scheduling?
