Having defended Rooney a fair bit on TMF, my patience with him is fading. I'd expect an elite athlete with the end of his career beckoning to be looking after his body. Boozing til 5 in the morning is two bad marks.

Was he boozing - how many, what was he drinking?

5am - really, check the battery on your watch.

I think Klopp had it about right.

And this from somebody who thinks Rooney is a massive underachiever at major tournaments. Although a lot of that could be down to the poor England management and coaching teams over the last decade.

Interesting defence of Rooney from Giles Smith in Saturday's Times. "At last, a good news football story. At the end of a day off, star footballer notices a wedding function in his hotel, and instead of grandly sweeping past in a posse of minders, he joins in. He chats, drinks, tries on some of the guests' clothes for a laugh, poses for photos, and ends up staying for hours, plays the piano, getting peaceably sloshed, and leaves the surprised and delighted guests with a tale to tell for a lifetime".

I've got a fair bit of sympathy with this viewpoint, as Rooney didn't actually offend anyone at the hotel and delighted quite a few people. The main problem was that photos were taken (and shared) where he was seen to be paralytically drunk, which was a mean-spirited act by whoever did it. Of course, in this day and age, Rooney should be aware of the danger of letting him be photographed in an embarrassing position. At least it puts him in good company - remember Prince Harry and the nude pictures in a Vegas hotel room?

Anyway, it'll certainly be a lesson to any Premier league star who is thinking of letting their guard down for a spot of drinking and socialising with the "little people".
