We're off on holiday shortly to Kirkby Stephen. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to eat which are dog friendly? Also information on interesting but not too taxing walks in the area?

You are not too far from Tebay, where the Westmoreland Hotel is dog friendly, and you can drop in for a lunch in the Lounge, with the dog.
I can't help with the walks - since we are usually passing through Tebay on long motorway journeys. If we can work up a good excuse, we stay overnight and have an excellent dinner, otherwise we just have a light lunch in the Lounge. The hotel can be reached from either side of the Tebay Motorway services.

I'd imagine most places are pretty dog friendly up there just because so many are geared to walkers, particularly pubs.

This is rather out of date :

but this should be rather more recent (but note it makes no attempt to comment on quality, although you can often read between the lines)

Here's some details of a 4-mile circular river walk from Kirkby Stephen, which takes in a dog-friendly pub called The Black Bull, at nearby Nateby -
