Travel cash

I'm heading to South Africa for the first half of July and then pretty much straight to Dubrovnik for the rest of the month.
I've looked at various ways of accessing currency in these places; prepaid cards, cash, but last year got a Halifax Clarity card which charges no fees on either spending or cash withdrawals abroad and uses the Mastercard rate for converting into sterling (I've just compared the £/Euro rate which is 1.146 compared to Travelex 1.116, so significantly better). The only downside to the Halifax Clarity card is that interest is charged on any cash withdrawals at 18.95%, so the maximum over a two week period would be around 0.7%. I'm wondering if I can get round that by loading some cash on my card so that there is never a balance outstanding to charge interest on. If there is anything outstanding I can just use it to buy normal stuff in the UK on my return.
Anybody used the Clarity card and what do they think of it?
