Guy Fawkes, you have a lot to answer for.......

#165391

Postby scottnsilky » September 9th, 2018, 9:16 pm

I really loathe Bonfire Night, I'd like to flee the country for the first week of November, not too particular where I go, so does anybody know a website that will show me a list of destinations for certain dates with prices, I've tried the usual suspects, Skyscanner etc. but can't find what I'm looking for. I've been retired 5 years I don't understand why I haven't thought of this before. I'm only really thinking short haul here, maybe 3-4 hours from Britain.
TIA

Skyscanner should be able to help you. If you choose a starting airport, you can set "Everywhere" as the destination. You can also set the time period to be the whole month and then drill down to something that suits.

I just tried it quickly and found I could fly to Stockholm over Guy Fawkes for a 4 day break from my local airport for about £90 (plus lots of other options).

Scott.

Thanks for that, Scott. I can go to Brussels for £34! I haven't decided yet where to go, but that's a very useful tool.

Just steer clear of Italy, Spain or Malta if there is a festa. :-)

I don't really care for fiestas with or without fireworks, not my cup of tea. I will be in Malta in a month, let's hope it's fiesta free.

Malta is passionate about fireworks - more so than Guy Fawkes and all year round.

Many are works of art and well worth going.

Oh 'eck, I've not heard that before, I have been there already and never heard any fireworks. I'm going to a specific event there, so it's not that I chose Malta over other destinations. I'd better pack the ear plugs.....

That Brussels price is wrong, they should be paying you to go there.

All I recall there being is a square, a motor museum and a hugely overrated 18 inch statue.

Really makes you appreciate the variety London has to offer the tourist

Well there is also the Atomium, if it is still open.

Plus an amazing selection of bars and restaurants. Oh and a reliable train connection to Brugges.

And beer. Lots of beer.
I have been to Brussels many times and enjoyed it, but I currently live in Slough so anything looks like an improvement

But tenuous , those.
Thunderbirds, Herschel, Mars, and Jimmy Carr ok...but Poy!e, Burnham Beeches, Stoke Poges are different places. Burnham Beeches and Black Park are very nice actually, several Hammer films used the latter

I've been to it twice. Once during the World Fair in 1958 and the other time would be when it was closed for refurbishment in 2005, which was a disappointment as I wanted to eat in the restaurant at an age when I would remember it.
