My sister, who lives in China and used to travel very extensively in the Far East, will add hours and hours to her journeys - mainly by travelling through Hong Kong - in order not to repeat her experiences of flying with China's domestic airlines. She says its getting worse on international flights now as the Chinese middle class gets bigger and richer.

Neither I nor my children will ever forget our last experience visiting Beijing, where it was clear that many internal tourists had never seen a western child before - this was in 2014. We stood near the panda enclosure in Beijing zoo while 40 Chinese tourists ignored the pandas and instead took pictures of our kids.
