With at least 2 banks that I am aware of, when you log into your account they open a popup window without the URL bar and so no padlock so that you can check for HTTPS.
Any idea why they would do something that appears to reduce your security?

I should have added, when any site does something like that, I close the popup and then right click on the link and open it in a new tab.
That way I can see what is going on, better. And I usually have a bigger window that the popups give.
