Just to give Windows 10 users the heads up about a conflict between the Edge browser and “2018-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x86-based Systems (KB4074588)” released 13 February 2018.
For more info on this update see …
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4074588/windows-10-update-kb4074588
In my case, after duly installing the update my Edge browser opened for a few seconds before shutting itself down. Having been on the Microsoft Community boards there are numerous postings of the past few days to this effect. The way I got round it was to uninstall the offending update and disable the Windows 10 automatic update function otherwise the removed update will just reinstall itself again.
For step-by-step info on how to prevent automatic updates using the Local Group Policy Editor see …

So, if following your next update, fellow Windows 10 users experience something similar then you know what to look for – that is until Microsoft get round to fixing the problem.

I have had that update both on an x86 and x64 system. Edge still works fine on both machines. If you do have problems with Edge after installing this update (or at any other time) try re-registering Edge. See this tutorial...

I've not had any issues on my x64 i5 box, use Edge daily.
