The internet was working, then it stopped working. I'm the tech support.
The details are sketchy. He's got a BT Home Hub 4, cabled to a pc running Win 10.
He does what he always does but it now comes up with "you are not connected". Where it says this I have no idea.
He's turned everything off and on again, and hasn't tripped over any cables.
Any ideas?
I'm a mac guy.

Re: Dad's internot
As an initial A/B you need to establish if the router has a working BB signal first (there's probably a specific status light.)
Has he got a mobile phone/tablet/laptop that he can use with an ethernet cable or wifi via the router? If that works then you'll know it's probably the PC/W10 causing issues.
There was recently a major W10 update, so it's possible that has interfered with something in the networking settings, but some basic A/B sleuthing will need to be done first to isolate the problem area.

The band of light accross the front of the Home Hub 4 tells you its status. Blue is good, for all the other colours see...

Re: Dad's internot
I've been through the BT customer help pages
He reckons the light is a healthy blue. There is no other tech to connect to it.
Thought there may have been a wave of "#metoo"s - it'll be the hub/BT/pc
He thinks he's found someone else with the same problem.
Thanks anyway.

Re: Dad's internot
How is the signal on the land line that he is connected to?
And is this ADSL? If so is the filter built into the socket or a little box plugged in before the line to the router?
I found that those were the first thing to check by replacing with a spare.

Re: Dad's internot
This sounds like a job for some local eyes and ears with some knowledge.
Maybe ask local friends and neighbours if there is a local "I.T. man" that can visit?
