Copying music from CD to USB stick

#140439

Postby Leither » May 21st, 2018, 8:45 pm

My new car came with no CD player, just bluetooth, USB port etc. How times change.

So I set about copying (or "ripping") all my CDs to a laptop (using Windows software) and then copying to a USB stick. All went well.

However, when I use the USB stick in the car, each track is duplicated on the media player in the car.

Does anyone know why this is so, and how to sort it?

Regards,

Leither.

Clutching at straws here, but I wonder if the media player in the car is picking up both the filename and also the tags. In Windows, right-click on the file and select properties and then click on the Details tab. You will see tags for the Track Title, Album, Artist etc.

In my car, the media player organises everything based on the tags.

Alternatively, I wonder if your ripping software has not only ripped the CD, but also created a playlist.

More straws...
I've driven a car that had an in-built hard drive to hold music. It could rip the (in this case) CD, so it only needed to be inserted once. Maybe it's automatically ripped the USB, or possibly allowing the option if you select one of the two choices?

A couple of other things to try, because some car MP3 players can get a bit confused if USB drives are removed incorrectly -

1. Put another, empty USB drive into the car player slot. Use as normal as though you were searching for songs, but then shut down when the track-listing is blank and then use your original drive.

2. Rename the USB drive that you're having issues with.

Cheers,

Thanks for all the replies. I meant to say that the USB itself doesn't show any duplicates.

I did that and yes I could see the tags but not sure what to do from there.

Don't think I've got that, certainly not showing up.

Tried both but didn't help.

Thanks anyway!

Make sure you are using the correct device type. On mine you can choose iPhone or USB, using iPhone causes issues if it is actually a USB stick

Ha ha! I think I may have stumbled towards the reason. There's a repeat button on the display. This seems to sort the duplication problem on some albums but not all, more investigation is required.

Thanks to all,

Leither.

This refers to a Mac and Sansa player, but I wonder if it gives you any clues: https://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/deta ... ing-mac-os

You could view the USB contents using Windows Explorer set to display hidden or system files.

This may also help: http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread.php ... ngs-on-USB

I’ll speak to the dealer.
