Backup software

After the latest Windows update for Windows 10, my Seagate/Memeo backup software refuses to run. The inbuilt Windows Backup looks rather primitive and in any case refuses to backup from my Truecrypt virtual drive.
Has anyone any suggestions for a good backup program?

It is! It's mainly there to allow older backups made by Windows 7 to be restored. In any case, the 'create a system image' part of it is deprecated and even Microsoft say you should use something else...

We recommend that users use full-disk backup solutions from other vendors.

There are backup solutions that just back up your user files, then there are ones that can make an image of the entire system that can restore the full working system to the same drive, should it have become corrupted and unusable, or to a replacement drive should the original die.

One of the best is Macrium Reflect Free. There is a paid-for version, but the free one is good enough for most purposes. The main advantage of buying it is that you get support.

A Macrium system image can be mounted as a virtual drive so that individual files can be copied from it, but Macrium can also be used to make file backups.

Macrium reflect is often recommended round these parts and over on the W10 forums, there's a free edition here...https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree

And a tutorial here...https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/610 ... flect.html

Another vote for Macrium Reflect. Used it for many years and it's rock solid

I haven't, for years I have stuck to making system images with the built-in MS tools. They are notoriously temperamental and can fail to recognise an image as being 'restoreable' if you are not careful. Over the years I have learned the pitfalls and can make it work reliably.

I''ve been using Macrium for about four months and loving it - I am never going to switch back :D

Thank you all. I've tried it out and its just what I want, albeit one needs to pay something to get full file and folder backup.

Might be a bit late but I am a very happy user of Cobian backup software.
