adverts on EDGE

#158711

Postby mutantpoodle » August 11th, 2018, 9:40 am

in an effort to get computer pages going faster I am trying EDGE instead of Google

as expected I am g=finding hic ups...but so far am coping

but I am unable to stop adverts
eg on 'mailonline' pages adverts are constantly coming and interrupting me

I have adblock plus etc and although some ads appear when using Google browser
nowhere near as many as when using EDGE

is there a way?

In Edge go to the three dots top right corner, select 'extensions' from the menu then 'explore more extensions' from the bottom which will take you to the MS Store app.
Click on Ublock Origin (fourth row down in my store app) and follow the installation instructions.

Also in Edge settings/advanced settings turn Flash off and turn on 'block pop ups'.
If you have logged in sites that need pop ups to work correctly then you'll have to turn the blocker off (I leave it off for that reason but YMMV.)

Chrome browser has a built in 'selective' ad blocker these days, but you can install your own full fat one, Ublock Origin again is the best option. Available from the store here (the top one of the three)...https://chrome.google.com/webstore/sear ... e-ntp-icon

Again turn off Flash and turn on block pop ups in advanced settings.

Here is an interesting comparison:

https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock#performance

Coincidentally, I have just installed uBlock Origin in Firefox Quantum on my Linux machine, which does not have a lot of memory or processing power. It has not noticeably slowed progress on websites like the BBC, and has speeded it on sites with adds. It is a compulsive liar though. It claims to be blocking adds on the BBC website.

uBlock Origin is short for 'original' as the developer is one of the founders of uBlock, but the two guys split and went their separate ways.

The other one appears to be a fork of uBO and AdBlock from the blurb, so I don't know what's going on there really, new one on me (unless it's something to do with the old uBlock?)
