Laptop graphics
Looking at a laptop for 14yo son as a Christmas present. Primarily for GCSE work, but of course it will be used for all manner of games. Older laptops we have in the house do not have separate graphics card capability and are limited in the games they can be used for. Other son has a desktop and has a reasonable separate graphics card to be able to run games. Is the graphics capability on the main CPU good enough nowadays ? Or is a laptop with a separate graphics chip and memory a must have ?

Re: Laptop graphics
It really depends on the game
i'd suggest running a couple of expected titles through "Can You Run It" at https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri
Or identify the onchip driver for the PC and search the intel site
e.g. https://www.intel.com.au/content/www/au ... ssors.html
- would be an indiction of the games suitable for the onboard driver of my programming "laptop" (Intel HD Graphics 4600)
It's a https://www.gigabyte.com/Laptop/P35W-v2#kf and does also have a GTX 870M card which means it has played everything I've tried on it
- useless as a laptop though given the bloody weight of it and the terrible battery life
- but a good desktop replacement that I keep accessible at home and use remotely
- I think these are common traits of most "gaming laptops" I've seen
have fun
