Still competitors of course, but with jointly owned physical network (via a joint venture company called CTIL)

Latest missive from O2:

We're still working to fix your issue.
We'll have an update for you in five days, or sooner if it's fixed.

If it goes to five days that would mean it was out for about twelve days. I'd love to know what is going on. "Can't get the parts, mate!"

Good news. A strong signal returned last night and has remained all day today. So it was off for about nine or ten days.

I have not yet received any email from either O2 or TESCO - possibly due to the weekend? Then again, the O2 online Service Status checker is still reporting: "Sorry a phone mast close to you is not working"!

Good grief! It's been working since last Saturday night, so three days now. Yet I received the following email from O2 today:

"Just to let you know we're still working hard to fix your issue.
We'll have an update for you in seven days, or sooner if it's fixed
"

And the online O2 Service Status monitor is still reporting:

"Sorry a phone mast close to you isn't working."

Does nobody know what is going on these days?

I got that message when I tried a 'random' postcode in central London last week.
I'll have a look today, it may be there's an issue with the O2 Service Status platform
[edit- seems to be OK today - ]

Yes, the same here now. The O2 Service status site is now reporting: "Our network is currently working fine."

And I have received an email today from O2: "Good news. We've fixed your network issue, so you should be back up and running."

Must be a delay of a day or so (well, 3 days!) before the system catches up with reality. It's all very strangely kludgey.

Hi,

Are people still having problems? I'm with Tesco Mobile which runs off the O2 network. The mobile towers which seem to serve the 3 locations I am mainly in are still showing as having problems when I type the post codes into O2's website. Tesco have given 2GB extra data in Jan for the inconvenience, but 1) I don't need extra data and 2) the problem still persists so i can't use it anyway lol.

Everything has been working normally where I am since restoration of service. I am still puzzled why it took ten days to get a base station in London working.

Have you contacted Tesco directly? I did and they took my email address to let me know when service was restored. This they didn't do, but O2 did, even if they were still reporting it as faulty three days after service was restored! On the day Tesco told me they were having: "Lot's of problems". When did your problem start?

It's all very strange. It did seem to me to date from the time of that well publicised O2 data problem, but that only lasted about 24 hours and I shouldn't even have been effected by it. Perhaps a coincidence?

Mrs S is with Tesco and it is working fine here in Essex.

Though I did have to give her texts a kick by sending her one before her's would send.

Hi

Thanks.

No I've not contacted Tesco's, i registered with 02's website where you can enter the postcode of the location your having an issue with and it advises there are indeed problems with the 3 post codes i tried.

As my contract is up i'll probably just switch providers shortly if i get fed up of it.

Thanks
Andy

Only trouble there, as I and another poster mentioned above, the O2 network status site itself proved to be dodgy. You cannot be sure it is reporting correctly. So directly contacting O2 or Tesco (via Chat) may be more reliable.

Oh Gawd!

The O2 signal has dropped out again. What is going on? Is it time to start blaming Brexit?

Hi,

Mine still hasn't fully recovered since it stopped working completely. If I move around (presumably to a different mobile tower) data works briefly but then stops.

I'm still out as well. Last time I had to wait an amazing (to me) ten days. The O2 Status site is still reporting: "Sorry a phone mast close to you isn't working". But from my and another's previous posts we know how reliable that is!

Why is this happening? Obviously something has gone wrong somewhere and we cannot expect people on here to be in a position to provide an answer, but there is one thing that is bothering me. I still use an old Nokia 1100 mobile, which I take as being a G2 generation device. As we have had G3 and G4 since then and the latest thing is G5, I am wondering about G2 services. I have heard that in Australia G2 services are being/have been wound down. How many people where I live are still using G2 phones? Perhaps very few, perhaps G2 services are now on low priority in the UK.

Does anyone know anything about this?

2G (aka GSM) is still live and part of the standard 'full stack' build
Lots of 'glove box mobiles' out there which are 2G only. Some of the 2G spectrum has been migrated to 3G (U900) but not enough to cause isduex

OMG! (This probably belongs in the comedy department)

This afternoon got the last remaining figures for my tax return, at last. Time to log on to HMRC... Oops!

No mobile, no PIN. No PIN, no logon. I should have chosen the 7 Day PIN last time, but I didn't. I didn't choose to set up an alternative number either. Oh!

Rushed outside without putting coat on, went to main road, hung around. No signal, no PIN. Went further down the road in direction of park. Still no signal, still no PIN. Went into park, climbed to top of hill, checked networks: T-Mobile and Vodaphone. Still no O2.

Hung around by tree feeling chilly - imagining somebody asking me: "What are you doing?"; Me: "Filling in my Tax Return..." Eventually, O2 appeared on network list. Hurrah! Phoned a friend while waiting for PIN to arrive. Eventually, got PIN, ran home. Logged on to computer, put PIN in HMRC box, tapped login.

Session timed out: "You will have to log in again" - I KNEW that would happen.

Modern life? Good when it works. :x

Good news. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46399707. Hope that cheers you up. :)

I have the same issues sometimes when I log in to do my quarterly VAT return. Can't get anything done until my smartphone gets a signal so that I can collect the damn code. Fortunately for me, though, a walk around the garden is usually enough. I certainly can't send text messages if they've got photos attached.

My next door neighbour is getting full-on 4G from EE, and he's only 20 yards away from me. He refused to believe that I sometimes couldn't even get 2G until he came round and found that his own phone had gone dead.

I did notice that this month's 02 bill was about a pound cheaper than usual. (I am on a very basic tariff, normally £12 a month.) It had me puzzled until I realised that the reduction represented 02's compensation. Hadn't really noticed the original problem actually, which I suppose shows how little I use 3G.

And they tell me the average smartphone user consults it 200 times a day?

BJ
