I repair mobile phones, and very often there are problems associated with charging.
Recently I bought one of these gadgets https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... &_sacat=0&
They're so cheap and useful, I thought I'd recommend them here.
Plug the usb end into either a laptop or USB charger, plug the charging cable into the outlet and connect to the phone or tablet, and it shows the voltage and current. If it quickly starts to charge at about 1 amp or so, its charging fine, and if it charges at about 20 milliamp, then the item is nearly charged. When the current drops to zero, then the battery is fully charger, and the inbuilt electronics have switched off the charging.
It takes all the uncertainty out of,"is the connection ok? is the wire broken? is there a bad contact? Am I killing my battery by overcharging?" For a couple of quid, an inexpensive bit of useful gadgetry.

I use AccuBattery monitor on my Nexus 5...https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ccubattery
I actually paid for the pro version as they had a huge discount flash sale offer on a while back, I'd been on the free version up until then which was more than adequate.
It will display real time charging info as well as loads of other stuff like battery health et al.
