this two year old phone has recently been losing battery level rapidly - down to critical in one day , switched on but not used .
its running android 5.1.1 i think .
DAK could this be some software running in background , and is there a way of looking at that .
thanks.

Re: samsung galaxy j320fn battery
Obvious question first - has it been restarted recently? If not, try that.

Re: samsung galaxy j320fn battery
It could really be a battery problem it its a couple of years old.
Batteries are usually rated for 500+ recharge cycles
Usually you can pick up a replacement for £5-10 on ebay etc.
But it could also be one or more apps that are badly written and running constantly in the background.
Some devices have a built in app that shows you what apps are eating the battery power.
Usually settings - power management or Battery, or something like that.
If you don't have a built in app, there are many that can be downloaded from play store to

Re: samsung galaxy j320fn battery
I use the accu battery app, it will give you loads of detail about charging, battery health et al. It also has overlays for CPU use so you can fire them up to see what's eating battery via CPU max outs.

As per upthread, a two year old battery isn't going to be great for charge capacity.
One thing that helped me recently was doing a factory reset on my Nexus 5 (Android 6.0.1).
That had a brand new battery in it very recently but was still draining quickly and getting hot until the reset. Uninstalling apps trying to find a culprit had proved fruitless.
If you run the phone logged in to Google services with full backup sync then it will save quite a bit app and general settings wise, but crucially not everything. Earlier versions of Android backed up less, so if on 5.1 you'd need to check exactly what.
Either write down the crucial bits like phone pin/wifi passwords et al or use a proper backup app like Titanium...https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... niumBackup
