a week or so ago I opened a thread ookingf ro advice regarding a windows live mail (win 7) to thunderbird (win 10) "migration".
It was the perfect storm... non compatible email systems cmbined with a btconnect email accoiunt that seemingly couldn;t connect for imap purposes, and as it turned out on the win7 WLM end was set to use POP3 anyway (probably becfause IMASP didn;t connect etc).
So in the end I tried the much advised on google hits importexporttools MT addon with EML files . It sort of worked... but rfeally didn;t. It seems to find emails from "storage folders" buit not the ,main inbox and its sub folders.
So in the end ...
* i created a gmail a/c to use a cpying device.
On the win7 PC
set up in WLM the gmail IMAP a/c as well
* replicated the folder structure etc from WLM in gmail IMAP
* copied the emails from various WLM folders to gmail imap folders
* removed the temp gmail a/c in WLM
On the win10 PC
* set up in TB both the friend's btconnect a/c in POP3, and the gmail IMAP a/c
* replicated the folder structure in btconnect a/c
* copied the emails from gmail IMAP folders into the TB POP3 a/c folders
* removed the temp gmail a/c in TB
we got there. Painful though it was.

I'll link below to your original thread didds, just in case your step-by-step solution above might be helpful to anyone finding the original thread, but not this separate one -
https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=17378
I'll also go and post a link to this thread onto the above thread, so there's a circular path between both threads.
Cheers,

Did you manage to find out what the BT connect IMAP issue was in the end didds?
If you can resolve it you could use the Gmail account as an archive mirror long term either IMAP(folders) or POP3(inbox), which will give some redundancy in case of issues with the BT account in future.
In Gmail accounts webmail settings you can use filters and coloured labels to differentiate between multiple third party accounts or alias addresses if needs be, I set it up a while back, much easier to view it all now, should have done it years ago.

No - I tried the account setup in a couple of different email clients on different systems, all to no joy. Some googlig around suggested with a few hits that I wasn't the first to come across the issue so I basically stopped trying.
As it it, in terms of future proofing my friend, I feel more confirnt that TB will provide that cover better in the future.
