iPhone email storage

#218018

Postby Clitheroekid » April 28th, 2019, 9:25 pm

For some reason my iPhone only stores emails for about a week, which is very annoying, as I often want to access emails from a while ago.

There may be a setting on the phone that I'm unaware of, but I've examined all the places where I'd expect to find such a setting without success. And although I've Googled widely I can't find a way of getting the phone to store the emails for a longer period. I'm using iOS 12.2, and some of the suggested remedies are for previous versions of iOS that no longer work.

I've got Dropbox on my phone, which does an excellent job of syncing with my work PC as far as documents are concerned, but I can't see that it's possible to use it in respect of emails.

If it's of any relevance I use Outlook on my PC.

Please bear in mind that I have effectively no technical knowledge.

I know it's a long shot, but I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

1) Open your Settings app of your iPhone or iPad, and select Passwords & Accounts.
2) Tap the Hotmail or Outlook account you set up.
3) Choose Mail Days to Sync.
4) Choose an option from one day to one month or unlimited

If you want a bit of continuity across devices then you can use the Outlook app. on your iPhone, but one of the iOS users will have to give you the procedure for making it your default email app.(If that is possible with iOS?).

Thanks. However, I'd already tried that. The latest version of iOS doesn't have a `Mail Days to Sync' option.

The answer may lie with the Email Client on your PC. I use Thunderbird and there is an option to delete posts from the server on reading, or to delay deletion for a number of days. To accommodate IMAP on my phone I set that at 14 days. If I am away on holiday, they don't get read on the PC and so are not deleted from the server.

Check what settings you have.

Something else to check, in the bottom left of the mail app is an option to "filter by unread" if you press that by accident it will hide all the read messages. Just press it again to turn off.
