fllowing from the email threads recently... my friend (migration win7->win10) has a HP Laserjet 1100 printer - its "so old" it has a serial connection (15 pin) cable.
Of course the new PC doesnty have a 15 pin serial connection on it - nor a 9 pin!
So wev are ooking at a serial<--->usb cable/adaprtor... but before we do that...
I cant find any drivesr for it that will install. She has the orginal drivers CD - but that won't install when I try.
Ive also searched on the HP website and downloaded the latest drivers for it - but they don't install either.

Has anybody managed to get such a beast working? I REALLY don;t want to get into the realms of install some virtual XP system (if I could sort the serial # n it anyway) just to run some cludge of a "network" printer solution.

Re: HP Laserjet 1100 - drivers for win10
I have the same printer, complete with adaptor cable, and it worked with my Windows10 PC. I might still have the driver installed or I can plug it in to see if the driver downloads automatically - but it won't be tonight! (The printer is now sadly surplus to requirements and waiting for me to get round to putting it on eBay.)

That would be great Ann! Thankyou!
Of course being win10 if I get the adaptor and plug it in ity may well just sort an appropriate driver itself... I just didn;t want to buy the adaptor to find it doesnt work with drivers etc!
cheers

W10 will download the drivers automatically, whether they work or not is a bit hit and miss.
I never managed to get my HP laserjet 6L working with W10 (worked fine with Linux Mint with IPP/CUPS over a USB-Centronics cable on the same machine), despite trawling the internet for weeks trying all the solutions that had worked for others multiple times.
Ended up buying an HP laserjet pro 15a in a closing down sale the other week for £24, worked immediately.

Indeed, the driver should download automatically.
There are drivers here https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-1100-printer-series/25470 but I don't know if they're up to date.
The adaptor cable was a fiver (nine years ago) from Ebay so worth a go.
I might have more information when Tech Support (aka my housemate) gets home from work later.

OK - so Ive ordered a dirt cheap adaptor from amazon. We'll plug it in and see what happens.
Some better googling late last night unearthed the potential of using a HP Universal PCL 5 driver.
